Compliments of the WPI Student Alumni Society and the WPI Alumni Association

The first Tech Bible was published at WPI in 1897. In its original form, it served as the student handbook for incoming freshmen, providing them with information about the history of WPI, campus life, freshman rules, and points of interest in the Worcester community. For over 80 years, the Bible proved invaluable in helping the freshmen become oriented to college life.

The Bible’s use was diminished once the Student Handbook and the Freshman Orientation program were introduced in the 1970s. In the 1980s, the Student Alumni Society (SAS) and some other organizations tried to revive the Tech Bible tradition, publishing sporadically, but in the early 1990s, SAS issued it with a new purpose: to include not only WPI history, but its traditions, and the growth and flourishing of the institution.

Students from the Student Alumni Society revised it in 2005, 2008, and again in 2010. It is their hope that it may serve as a primer for all students about WPI’s heritage, filling its readers with a sense of pride and renewed knowledge of the unique and rich history of WPI.
