Job Description: The Student Interns (SI) for Multicultural Education are valued members of the Office of Diversity, Inclusion, and Multicultural Education (ODIME) and key partners in the management and operations of the office. Student Interns facilitate the day-to-day office operations for the ODIME while providing exceptional customer service to those who frequent the office spaces. Guided by equity and social justice, SI's prepare the office's various success programs alongside the ODIME team to promote and foster an inclusive living and learning environment at WPI. This position reports directly to the Office of Diversity, Inclusion, and Multicultural Education professional staff (Director, Assistant Directors, and Administrative Assistant).

Responsibilities
  • Work closely with the ODIME team to promote the utilization of the OASIS Multicultural Center (OASIS House) at 20 Schussler Road, the Collegiate Religious Center (CRC) at 19 Schussler Road, the Center for Black Excellence (CBE) in the Rubin Campus Center (Suite 222), the Lavender Lounge (LL), and the Lotus Lounge (LL) in the Rubin Campus Center (Suite 225).
  • Prepare office programming and projects, including research and facilitation.
  • Greet and assist anyone entering space through appropriate customer service practices and support resources.
  • Perform a variety of administrative tasks, not limited to organizing and putting away supplies, gathering materials for events, and ensuring assessment is fulfilled through promotion of signing into spaces.
  • Maintain the OASIS Multicultural Center (OASIS House) and Collegiate Religious Center (CRC) through regular supply checks, cleaning, sanitizing, and rotation of promotional materials.
  • Clean surfaces including doorknobs, tables, chairs, etc., after guests are done utilizing the space. This includes a cleaning of the kitchen and restroom(s) when necessary.
  • Supervise the OASIS Multicultural Center (OASIS House) and Collegiate Religious Center (CRC) when they are being utilized, including ensuring all policies, practices, and procedures are being followed, by maintaining a presence in the space(s) during your allotted shift time.
  • Maintain the OASIS Multicultural Center (OASIS House) and Collegiate Religious Center (CRC) space reservations by showing groups to their spaces and ensuring groups are only utilizing their allotted time.
  • Participate in mandatory training before employment starts, recurring team meetings, and termly one-to-one meetings with supervisor(s).
  • Employ clear communication skills and utilize multiple means of communication to share information, including WPI email and Slack.
  • Maintain timely communication with professional staff, student staff, and campus partners.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, access, and belonging for all students at WPI.
  • Continue to engage in learning opportunities to improve knowledge of social justice and cultural competency.
  • Model a commitment to multiculturalism by creating and fostering a community in which all individuals are included and welcomed.
  • Assist the ODIME team with fostering a diverse living and learning environment at WPI and creating a sense of belonging for all students.
  • Uphold WPI's policies of prohibiting harassment and discrimination on campus.
  • Promote and champion Office of Diversity, Inclusion, and Multicultural Education programs, services, and events.
  • Assist the Graduate Assistants (GAs) where necessary.
  • Assist with other duties as assigned by an Office of Diversity, Inclusion, and Multicultural Education staff member.
Requirements: Ability
  • Must be able to work in-person, in a stationary position and rotate between sitting and standing regularly.
  • Be able to occasionally move items weighing up to 30 pounds (lbs.).
  • Must be able to communicate with community members and exchange information.
  • Occasionally ascends/descends stairs to professional staff offices and/or building spaces.
  • Must be able to walk to buildings and spaces to allow access.
  • Be able to operate a computer and/or mobile device to carry out position requirements.
Compensation

Financial Benefits
  • Hourly Pay: Student Interns are paid at a rate of $15.00 per hour (minimum wage).
  • Student paychecks are distributed bi-weekly if they complete their timesheet in Workday by the Payroll deadline.
