High-Precision Custom-Built Ultrasonic Fatigue Testing Equipment

General:

The Fatigue Laboratory at iMdc has three Instron Servo-Hydraulic Testing systems, models 8800, 8502, and 8511. The Laboratory is also equipped with a fully computerized tensile testing frame, Instron model 5500R, for high-accuracy testing and material property evaluations. The equipment enables full mechanical characterization of metallic, ceramic, polymeric, composite, and hybrid materials at room and elevated temperatures.

Specifications of Conventional Testing:

Load cell capacities 1,000-50,000 lbf (4,450-222,500 N).
Stardard and customized grips, environmental chambers and furnaces, and supporting software for conducting fatigue, fatigue crack growth, and fracture toughness testing at room and elevated temperatures under constant and variable amplitude conditions.
The systems are equipped with Fracture Technology Associates (FTA) data collection and analysis software enabling small and long fatigue crack growth evaluation and fracture toughness determination using Compliance and Potential Drop techniques for crack measurement.
