to use, including the new Alden hydraulic laboratory, dedicated the previous spring. In his will he established a trust fund for educational uses, and the Institute was later to share abundantly the income from this trust. The first portion of his bequest was $40,000, which he had previously promised for the construction of the hydraulic laboratory, then $30,000 to establish the Charles 0. Thompson Fund, which was later increased to $50,000.

Clinton S. Marshall was named to succeed Dr. Alden as the trustee representing the State Board of Education. Paul B. Morgan, '90, succeeded Victor E. Edwards, '83, as a life member of the Board in 1927, when ill health forced Dr. Edwards to resign from all his activities. He died four years later, May 16, 1931.

The term trustees nominated by the alumni in 1926 were Windsor T. White, '90, R. Sanford Riley, '96, and A. Atwater Kent, '00. Ernest B. Freeman, '01, was chosen to fill the unexpired term of Francis W. Treadway, '90, whose death, December 24, 1925, took from the college one of its most constructive graduates. The new term members in 1927 were Charles E. Eveleth, '99, and Samuel M. Stone, president of Colts Patent Firearms Manufacturing Co. Calvin H. Hill, '77, was reelected for another term, and to succeed those who had become life members Charles L. Newcomb, '80, and Alfred 0. Weld, '04, were named.

Although the major gifts received by the Corporation between 1925 and 1927 were designated for buildings and grounds, there were a few for endowment. Four items of industrial scholarships were added - $10,000 each from the Rockwood Sprinkler Co. and the New England Power Co., and $5,000 each from the American Steel & Wire Co. and the Heald Machine Co. From the estate of Mrs. Katharine (Milton P.) Higgins came a bequest of $5,000. Another bequest of $25,000 for scholarships was contained in the will of David Hale Fanning, wealthy Worcester manufacturer, who was in no way connected with the Institute. He had also named the
