A Century of Leadership

Although he organized the course of study in electrical engineering at WPI, physics professor Alonzo S. Kimball never served as head of the Electrical Engineering Department. In the department's first 100 years, only seven individuals have held that title (during the same period, there have been 14 WPI presidents). They are:

• Harold B. Smith, 1896-1931
• Theodore H. Morgan, 1931-1942; 1945-1958
• Francis J. Adams, 1942-1945
• Glen A. Richardson, 1958-1973
• Harit Majmudar, 1973-1983
• Kevin A. Clements, 1983-1988
• John A. Orr, 1988-present
