Connecting an Android Device to the Wireless Network
Requirements
If you do not have a WPI account, please visit Wireless Guest Access for further information.
Make sure that the date, time and timezone are properly set. Proper time and timezone are required for wireless encryption.
Android Devices
Automated installation for Android versions 2.1 (circa 2010) and newer are supported. If you have an Android device with an older Android version you will need to configure it manually.
Make sure that your device has a lock screen PIN or password.
Enable "Unknown sources" in Settings -> Security.
Instructions
Step 1 - Get Connected!
Connect to the WPI-Wireless-Setup wireless network
In order to use the WPI Wireless network, you must understand and agree to the WPI Acceptable Use Policy.
Once you have a complete understanding of the policy, select the checkbox and click Start.
Step 4 - Registration Warning
If you have not registered your device in the Wireless: Mobile
Wireless Systems IP Range through the
Network Registration page, you should do so now. While connected to the WPI-Wireless-Setup network:
Provide your WPI Username and Password. Do not use any WPI credentials other than your own.
Step 6 - Download XpressConnect
Install the CloudPath XpressConnect application to your Android device.
If you have a Cell Phone Data Plan for this device, you may download the app from either the Google Play Store or the Amazon AppStore. Continue to Step 7.
If you do not have a Cell Phone Data Plan for this device, you may download the app as a Direct Download. You may need to follow a few additional steps.
Step 6a - Blocked Installation Issues
In order to install the Direct Download, the Android device must be configured to allow installation of apps from sources other than the Play Store. If you are unsure of your setting, Android will prompt you if you are unable to install the application.
Click on Settings
Check Unknown Sources
Return to the web page and redownload the application
Step 7 - Install XpressConnect
Install the CloudPath XpressConnect application to your Android device.
Do not click the Open button after XpressConnect completes its installation.
After the application is installed, click Done to return to the web browser and click Configure Device.
Step 8 - Running XpressConnect
CloudPath XpressConnect will configure wifi access on your Android device.
If you are prompted for a password to install a certificate, just tap the OK button.
This wifi configuration will require that you have a screen lock code. If you do not have one, the XpressConnect application will assist in setting that option.
If the certificate asks for Credential use, select Wi-Fi
Step 9 - Success!
After XpressConnect has completed - it will display a Successfully connected message and a web browser window will open displaying http://www.wpi.edu/.
The most common reason XpressConnect will fail is that the wireless device has not been registered in http://netreg.wpi.edu/. XpressConnect may display a message that An IP address was not acquired within the allotted time. If this is a newly registered device, please wait 30 minutes and try again.
